Lactic acid pain - 01-11-2018, 07:36 PM

In my log I tell the entire story. I tried a leg training protocol called
"squat till ya puke" <---Not kidding. Long story short I got through 22 sets and never did puke. Two days later I'm in more pain than yesterday. I've been drinking a ton of water and soaking in the tub but it doesn't seam to be helping. It kept me up last night. I'm not taking Motrin or other pain aids because it stunts recovery growth. I got this from reading articles but I'm not quite sold on it . Does anyone have prof positive about pain aid blunting the recovery? From what I'm understanding, it blunts it by putting the pain signals on dim. The things that are put in motion don't go into motion because there not being signaled by the damaged fiber pain. Anyone?

This talks about 3 different studies, one with younger people 25 at 1200mgs a day did lower protein synthesis, the second with older subjects 60-70 increased protein synthesis, and the 3rd with a moderate dose 400mgs there was no affect on protein synthesis

From what I read as a kid studying bkdybuilding pain reliebers such as cortisol and NSAIDs hinder/impede recovery because it prevents the swelling of muscle tissue which signals repair, they also impede/himder protien synthesis, and a few other issues. Here are some articles.

2 things.

1. Cardio helps decrease lactic acid build up. Doing HIIT cardio after weight training increases blood flow to the muscles which helps to flush out the lactic acid that causes soreness. It doesn’t have to be hours long. Just 3-5 1 minute sprints with 1-3 minutes of rest in between. Whether it’s the treadmill, rower, stationary bike, etc, doesn’t matter. My back gets much less sore when I hit the rowing machine immediately after my back day workout.

2. Training until you puke is stupid. I don’t care what Dave Tate says, the science says he’s wrong. Training to the point of vomiting is, at best, counterproductive and, at worst, highly dangerous. It’s the same mind set that causes all these Crosstards to end up in the hospital with rhab***yolysis. It’s not hardcore, it doesn’t show how committed or focused you are. It’s just taking a good thing and going way too far with it.

I agree about pushing beyond boundaries. It's one thing to force growth but another to become the fucktard in the gym doing the shit he saw on youtube or read in a magazine. I was once there when I was 12-14 until my dad showed me what 80-90's prison bodybuilding and cdcr wildland fire fighting workouts were. Changed me forever. Only time i throw up is when I pretend my dsd is here orking out with me as a shadow I am trying to keep up with the circuit supersets. Best fucking workout sessions of my life.

Itís not a personal slight. Weíve all done it. I was working with a local trainer a couple years ago and he would put me through these super intense cardio and lifting routines. One more than one ocassion after training my back I had to run to the restroom and yack. It wasnít intentional, but it still happened. For sure it was a sign that I had to dial back the intensity of that particular workout. I noticed that my recovery from those days took so long that I negatively effected my progress, overall.

Training that way intentionally is just not productive. It sounds like you figured that out on your own, though.

I was wondering how a cryotherapy session or two would help with pain/soreness like this. I've never done it but have been wanting to try it out

Well apparently there are studies showing it reduces inflammation and speeds recovery, but I haven't looked them up yet. Pro-Athletes use it and ice baths so I would think there is something to it. But I'll check in to the studies.

As far as the fatloss I have looked that up before and it is suppose to work by shrinking the fatcell due to the extreme cold. Don't know if it really works but read several reviews saying it did but who knows how legit those are

This study shows some evidence of cryotherapy helping with pain due to injuries and surgery. While it's not completely definitive and needs more specific studies it is interesting. I heard a doctor on television show the other day saying that it helps with circulation and arthritis as well.

The evidence the founding doctor or scientist had is that children were fed popsickle for an extended amount of time. He noticed the ones who ate popsickle daily for the length of time began to have little to fat in their cheeks compared to the children who did not eat popsicles.
