Has anyone ever taken oral L Carnitine? - 04-05-2018, 07:11 PM

I realize that injecting L carnitine is more effective than taking it orally, but I was considering taking anywhere between 5-10 grams of oral L carnitine a day maybe both pre and post workout with my carbs and Humulin R.
Basically I would do this to be cost effective vs using inject L carnitine.
What is everyones thoughts on how effective this would be.

The oral version is only going to aid in fat loss IF your deficient in carnitine which is generally found in the elderly...I personally wouldnt waste my time with oral l carnitine if the goal is fast loss.

Look into Synthetek's Synthetine if you are truly looking to utilize l-carnitine.

I知 not sure I知 following you with that link. Basically it says it gave 4 grams of l carnitine to elderly individuals (with no mention of any L Car deficiency in the study group) vs a placebo group and the individuals that took the L Car wiped the floor vs the placebo group with significant increases in both fat loss and LBM gains.
Where are you coming up with oral L Car is going to aid in fat loss if you are deficient and you are elderly?

I realize Synthetek is superior to oral use. As stated in the op I would be doing this to be cost effective since Synthetek is expensive even with their specials. Also I would be using mega dosing of the oral type to try and make it as effective as possible.
I知 trying to get some feedback from anyone to see if they have tried the high dose oral route and what their results were.
Remember I would also being doing this while taking in both carbs and slin to increase its effectiveness.

That was simply one study out of dozens showing the conclusion I wrote.

Fair enough, but can you explain to me from that study what makes you not like oral L Car usage.
All I'm seeing is benefits (significant fat loss and LBM gains) vs the placebo group.

I noticed Synthetine is on sale now. Do you think it is expensive? I suppose it's more than oral carnitine. I am a fan of ALCAR and it's a great supplement. Synthetine gives many more physique benefits. ALCAR really helped my mood and gave some fat loss benefits. Someone posted a thread on this in the supplement section.

Oral carnitine can be very good. Most of the studies done on carnitine are using the oral form. In my experience injectable carnitine is far better due to enhanced absorption.

The problem is the very low bio availability in oral usage, which I'm sure you understand.
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/12908852

If you took 10g orally maybe that would lead to an effective dose but I don't think it would really be more cost effective using that much. Depends on where you get it I guess, but I was looking at popular supplement brands and doesn't seem that way.

In my experience even high doses of oral carnitine are different to low doses of injectable carnitine. I mainly get mental benefits from oral carnitine with some fat loss effects. Inj carnitine I get everything and it's very useful when dieting.

Oral carnitine has it's uses and is worth trying but the absorption is lower than when you inject it. If you want to try it go for alcar or l-carnitine tartrate.

but old age won't grant him a truce

I would just get Synthetine and try that. It's common knowledge it works better than oral carnitine. It is more expensive but not much more than if you pay for a good alcar or carn tartrate.

I agree. There are some good oral carnitines but they are still about $30 for a good brand. I would just pay the extra and go with a good injectable brand. Well unless you don't want to do the daily shots then go with the oral. Synthetine was pain free for me so it never became a problem injecting every training day.
