Stress levels effecting your lifestyle. -
12-12-2012, 04:08 PM
I wonder how many of you cope with unusual amounts of stress and still stay on track with your bodybuilding/training? I know some of the close brothers have had some major"stuff" to deal with in the recent past. I guess this is a pep talk round table discussion. I think it could be helpful to hear what others do to keep focus in hard times.
Thanks, T |

Stress is a tough one and effects everyone differently! If I'm feeling stressed no matter for what, I try to get some sleep and dream about better places and times.
It kind of gives me that down time that I need to break away from things so that when I wake up I'm more refreshed to be able to deal and cope with things around me. |

right on T, i for one have had a shitty November in losing one of my closest and dearest lifelong friends and the added stress of work picking up at the worst time emotionally for me and not to mention my PTSD issues, i think that one thing for me that helps keep me grounded is the gym. i find that i run out of patience for pinning and will pin everything once a week as i just hate it for what ever reason and not that i dread it but i just effing hate it, but i never miss the gym. i think missing the gym leaves me feeling worse. i also have found i must be more focused on my diet because i have become lazy since Dustin passed but i do make myself pay for it in the gym or in the pool. T i always include you and your mom and your family in my morning thanks as i wake up express my gratitude for another day here i give thanks for the blessings that have and will come your way my friend. thanks for starting this one man, i think it does help a lot especially with this group of solid people here. all of my best to you and everyone here.

I try to focus on what I have and the positives in life when stress builds up or difficult things come along to deal with. Sometimes we get so caught up in the moment, or so busy with life that we don't focus on what we do have.
It does affect training though, there's no way around it. I don't get enough rest and eat poorly. The positive I try to take away is if I can at least tread water in the gym with my workouts through the times, then make some gains when stress is lower. |

My life seems to be on a roller coaster these days. Some days are more difficult than others to keep my emotional sobriety.
I try and start the day by handing it over and then try to enjoy the ride. I find the more I try and control things, the more stressed I get. I don't get a lot of quite time, so I really appreciate my time at the gym. I put on my headphones, listen to Metallica (Black Album) and totally zone out into my "workout" happy place. I always feel emotionally refreshed after a good workout! ![]() 5" 8" 207 pounds 13% BF Training On/Off 25+ years |

Definately don't under-estimate jumping in your car and going for a long ride....especially if you can drive to somewhere that has great scenery....beach, mountains, etc.
I don't have the fastest car around, but i'm sure guys like Big A and LEX and JAG can understand the thrill of getting in your car and flooring it on an open straight-away. If I had to pick a career over from a younb age, i'd have picked to be a NASCAR driver....one of my childhood friends drives on the NASCAR circuit....and has won the Daytona 500 even! I put fishing in my list above, I also want to add camping. Camping is my favorite thing to do outside of gym, sex, and eating...lol. I'm tyrying to get a good hiking trip lined up this upcoming summer for the sierra nevadas....missed it this year ![]() |

Thanks for all the great suggs. I have been getting up before light to set up my work equipment in the mornings. The geese and ducks are so use to me talking to them all day or singing badly with my mp3 on . They seem to be facinated by the work i'm doing. I get a sunrise to look at and animals to talk to. I tell them all sleep well and seeya in the morning. Wild waterfowl are so damn funny. Music really helps. I can put myself in a good place. sunset and being wiped out from really heavy all day labor leaves me feeling satisfied.
Last but not least a good nutt with the wife and my day makes it easy to say thanks God it was a good day... T |

Well here I am again. I know this probably belongs somewhere else but it does relate to my training goals. I have had 4 adult children move back home again
in the last 4 months. All are in early 30's 1 son 1 daughter 1 stepson 1 son in law. None have jobs as there are no jobs to be had here. I myself am self employed my wife has a city job. Guys i'm tired. There has only been 3 months in 9 yrs of marraige that we have had the house to ourselves. I also have a 12 yr old boy and 10 yr old girl that I have guardianship of. They are staying with thier mom at present but the 12 yr old needs to move back here he is going into a very at risk time where we live. While trying to sort things out I seem to lose myself in the process. I'm leaving for a job site in lake geneva tonight. I'm glad I can provide a safe place for family but I kind of always have to put my own needs/wants on the shelf.I guess it would be easy to reread this and just say wow what a whiny bitchass i'm being but yet my brain feels very tired.I'm trying to hang in there and hope for better days but sometimes i feel like that they may never come. Maybe I need to just suck it up and live life on lifes terms but I'm just falling a bit short right now. I'm hoping to have a good training 2013 after I get 2 more hernia repairs in jan. I need a vacation....... Thanks, T |

Any of you guys try meditation?
I don't get around to it every day, but 20-30 minutes of meditation in the evening seems to completely level me. It's made me see that I am the only one who can control me and how I think about the world. Reflecting on why you feel a certain way really does seem to bring calm. All the stuuf you guys have mentioned are great ways to ground yourself. And i do almost all of them too. But as ive become older ive learned that when im really stressed, i have to go watch a movie. And i dont mean go rent one, or watch one on cable, i mean go to the movie theater and watch a good movie. I hate how expensive watching a movie has become. But its the one thing i can go do where my phone must be turned off, nobody is going to talk to me, i dont have to talk to anyone, and if the movie is good, i can lose myself in the movie and completely empty my mind of all thoughts except whats going on in the movie.
I cant say all movies do this for me, but the good ones do. I must be getting old. |
