After "hundreds of tests" during his career, Edelman tested positive for the first time, according to ESPN.

Edelman did not play in 2017 after suffering an ACL injury during the preseason. He finished 2016 with 98 receptions for 1,106 yards and three touchdowns. That was also the season when he had a herculean effort in the postseason, including a circus catch in Super Bowl LI during the Patriots' comeback win over the Atlanta Falcons.

If Edelman's suspension is upheld, the Patriots would be left with receivers Chris Hogan, Phillip Dorsett, Jordan Matthews, Kenny Britt, Cordarrelle Patterson, Malcolm Mitchell, Riley McCarron, Cody Hollister, Braxton Berrios and Matthew Slater.
