JEFFERSON CITY — Deputies said a suspect arrested Sunday afternoon had almost $20,000 worth of anabolic steroids without a prescription.

A Cole County deputy conducted a traffic stop about 1 p.m. after a vehicle was driving on U.S. Highway 54 near Brown Road with expired license plate tags.

During the stop, the steroids, as well as syringes, were seized.

The male suspect was booked into the Cole County Jail on a $5,000 bond on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance.

The suspect's name was not released.

I was thinking about the stupidity of this story and found an update with the name(s).

https://www.newstribune.com/news/local/story/2019/apr/01/charges-filed-cole-county-steroids-case/772368/

Charges have been filed after a routine traffic stop last month led to approximately $20,000 of steroids being seized by the Cole County Sheriff's Office.

Alexander Buehrer, 23, of Wentzville, was charged Monday with delivery of a controlled substance and unlawful delivery of drug paraphernalia.

A deputy pulled Buehrer over March 24 on U.S. 54 near Brown Road for expired registration, according to court documents.

The traffic stop "resulted in the seizure of approximately 100 syringes and 40 glass vials of anabolic steroids, without a prescription."

Buehrer reportedly told authorities he was aware the steroids were illegal and said he used them in his capacity as a competitive weightlifter.

Anabolic steroids are synthetic variations of the hormone testosterone, according to the National Institutes of Health's National Institute on Drug Abuse. Anabolic steroids are used to build muscle, and the majority of people who misuse them are weightlifters in their 20s or 30s, according to the NIH, though health care providers can also prescribe the steroids to treat conditions such as hormonal issues.

Major over-inflation!

Syringes would be worth nothing and 40 vials being valued at $20k would be $500 per vial!
