We had a "bench off" contest in the gym yesterday. I weighed in at 221, the range of guys was 176lbs to 355lbs. My main competitors were 322lbs and 295lbs so I wasn't sure if I could pull it off. 1st round of 1 rep max was 355lbs which I took off the rack with ease but lowered it too quickly in the hopes of a quick lift and blew it. Many tried the 1st round but no one pressed it. 2nd round was 345lbs which I nailed, knowing I could have got that 355. One other guy (322lbs) got that weight and I tied the unlimited class for 1st.
The 225 rep out contest followed. I actually repped out 275 and 255 to try and get a workout in also. I got 21 reps (a new PR it used to be 17) so I'm guessing if I started cold maybe another rep or two.
Someone told me King Kamali only got 16 reps of 225 in a contest?? I've also seen NFL players getting 40+
